Thank you for signing up to be part of the change our country so desperately needs.
Rank The Vote DE aims to mobilize the people of Delaware to achieve a more equitable system of voting, which will have cascading effects throughout our political system including: the elimination of vote splitting by closely aligned candidates, ensuring a winner by majority, curbing negative campaigns, increasing voter turnout, and de-polarizing political candidates. This common-sense idea is completely non-partisan, and should be able to garner support regardless of political affiliation.
Ranked Choice Voting (also called Instant Runoff Voting) allows voters to rank candidates from most-preferred to least-preferred. If no candidate wins a majority when votes are counted, the lowest-ranked candidate is eliminated, and each of their votes are re-assigned to each voter’s next-most-preferred candidate. This process repeats until a candidate wins a majority.
In addition to letting voters vote for third-party candidates without worrying about “spoiling” the election, Ranked Choice Voting has been shown in Maine and many American cities to decrease political polarization and increase civility, because it incentivizes candidates to court all voters, not just their base.
